COVID-19 : 5 Die In Edo’s Isolation Centres

No fewer than five persons have died from coronavirus (COVID-19) complications at two isolation and treatment centres in Benin city, Edo State.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, who disclosed this on Monday, said the five new deaths bring the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the state to 24.

He said the new deaths recorded at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin-city, were mostly of people above the age of 60.

“We have recorded 5 new #COVID19 deaths, bringing the no. of fatalities to 24,” the governor tweeted on his twitter handle, @GovernorObaseki.

The tweet goes further : “One of the deaths is at Stella Obasanjo Hospital and 4 at @ubthng.

“Most of the deaths are persons above 60 years.

Also, 13 patients have been discharged.

“Please obey safety guidelines and stay safe.”

The LABOUR reports that Edo State which will hold its gubernatorial election in September 2020, is one of the epic centres of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The state currently ranks number four in the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control’s (NCDC) log with 401 COVID-19 cases, out of a total of 12, 486 so far recorded in 35 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
