Nigeria’s National Commission For Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons ( NCFRMI) says it has concluded plans to hold a national migration dialogue, with the intention of developing a national action plan for the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), as part of its activities to mark this year’s international migrant day.
To commence the International Migrants’ Day celebration, the commission will hold a sensitization road walk in Abuja to sensitize Nigerians on the dangers of irregular migration.p
The International Migrants’ Day is observed on 18 December in accordance with Resolution 55/93 of the United Nations General Assembly, adopted on 4 December 2000.
Recall that Nigeria joined 151 other countries in December 2018 at Marrakesh, Morocco to adopt the GCM document.
Developing a national action plan for the implementation of GCM is another pointer to the commitment of the federal government to improving migration governance. It is worthy of note that Nigeria already has a national policy on Migration, and on labour Migration.
