Breaking: Onnoghen pleads not guilty to false assets declaration charges

By John Ameh

The Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen has pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge bordering on improper assets declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.

Onnoghen who arrived the CCT in Abuja this morning, had consistently shunned the Tribunal since proceedings opened in the case on January 14 this year.

He had challenged the tribunal’s authority to try him and obtained restraining orders form High Courts.

On February 13 this year, the CCT Chairman, Justice Danladi Umar issued a bench warrant for his arrest after running out of patience with the embattled CJN.
